Eat With Your Eyes is a darkly comedic auto-fiction. The film follows Jenny, who gets handed her own café, café Hot Buns, when the owner is arrested and imprisoned. Jenny is not told why, and instead instructed to act normal and keep baking her big beautiful buns. As it happens, Jenny is already a bit of an expert when it comes to pretending all is well – on a night out, she has been drugged and has ever since been convincing herself she does not remember what happened and even if she did, it’s nothing bad. Throughout the film, Jenny and the café act as in symbiosis, bursting in the seams with evidence of wrongdoing while trying to appear happy and normal. Eventually, everything comes to a boiling point. Jenny is forced to accept reality – a reality that she remains free to form into whatever she wants but that comes with a side of scarring.
